A night after getting shutout by San Diego things started off well for Colorado. Nolan Arenado hit a three-run homer, his first on the road this season, in the top of the first to give the Rockies a 3-0 lead, then the bottom of the first happened.
Colorado starter Chi Chi González walked three and hit a batter while recording just one out before he was removed for José Mujica who came on for his major league debut. It was not one he’ll want to remember. The first batter he faced, Wil Myers, hit a grand slam. When the inning ended Colorado trailed 5-3.
By the time the second inning was over the Padres’ lead had ballooned to 10-3. And when all was said and done San Diego rolled to a 14-5 win on Tuesday night in San Diego.
“So, 3-0, especially after last night, when only one run was scored … and we jump right out against a very good pitcher. We gave Chi Chi an opportunity to go down there and have a shutdown innings. Then things got away from Chi Chi.”Rockies manager Bud Black said after Tuesday’s loss.
Season finale vs. Padres
Tonight marks not only the final game of the three-game series between Colorado and San Diego, but their final meeting of the season unless they play each other in the playoffs.
Righty Antonio Senzatela (3-1, 3.33 ERA) will get the start for the Rockies against righty Zach Davies (6-2, 2.23 ERA) for the Padres.
